Ramona
Abrudan was born August 1, 1966 into a family where
only her mother was a Christian. When Ramona was 14,
she had the opportunity to attend a Christian youth
camp in the mountains of Romania. It was during this
camp that she invited Jesus into her life. While at
this camp, she also met the man she would marry eight
years later. On June 26, 1983, Ramona was baptized in
her home church.
Following the death of her father in 1982, Ramona
became involved in children's ministry at her home
church. Then, in 1985, Ramona started working with
youth. During this active involvement with children
and youth ministries, Ramona began studying Economic
Science at the University.
While completing her degree in Economics, Ramona
married her camp sweetheart, Rei Abrudan, on July
17, 1988. A year later she graduated from the University
and took a job as an economist for IRIS SA, a china
factory in Cluj-Napoca. Two years later, their first
son was born, Paul-Sebastian, on September 8, 1991.
The following year brought the birth of their Christmas
baby, Marc-Serban, born on December 25, 1992.
Since the birth of their sons, Ramona has been working
for New Hope Ministries in Cluj, Romania. She says
that after several years of prayer, God listened to
her desires to be a full-time worker among young people.
As a Youth Counselor, Ramona's responsibilities include
her continued work with the youth of her church. However,
her youth ministry has expanded with the government's
permission to teach religion in the public and private
schools.
Through a Bible class Ramona teaches at a local high
school, a counseling service developed for teens.
Ramona says she never realized the deep hurts and
problems the students were dealing with until some
of them began to come and talk to her.
The administrative responsibilities of Ramona's work
includes preparing 19 future Sunday School teachers
for one of Romania's largest churches as well as training
teachers in a church in Jibou. Ramona follows a three
year training curriculum which requires evangelistic
field work for each participant. The area of focus
for these teachers is raising their awareness to the
special needs of the nonchurched children and youth
that will be attending the new church from the neighborhood.
Ramona also trains Sunday School teachers countrywide
in the new BCM materials New Hope has published.
Further, Ramona inputs Rei's translation work into
the computer and maintains the bookkeeping for all
of Cluj's distribution work. She is also actively
involved in organizing several of the New Hope youth
and family camps in the summer.
