I come from an unbelieving family and I was nurtured
as an atheist. After the Velvet Revolution in November
1989, things changed. I began to think about the meaning
of life. I had tried to know many things, but none gave
me any peace. By this method of elimination, I realized
that God exists – it was only one thing which
gave me any peace. After several months in 1991, I prayed
for the first time, “God please, forgive me my
sins,”… and I became a Christian. I started
to go to a Christian fellowship and I have been a member
of this church since 1992. From the beginning, I worked
with children at church and at the children’s
hospital.
In 1994, two important events occurred. I married
and began to serve God as a leader of the children’s
service in our church. After seven years of marriage,
I have 2 daughters, ages 4 and 2. After seven years
of service, I have the following responsibilities:
I’m a leader of the children’s service
(60 children and 10 teachers); I teach children at
Sunday School (ages 10-16); I’m the leader of
a Christian puppet theatre; and I help to organize
trips and camps for children and youth from our church
and children’s home. And finally, I lead children’s
groups (both believers and unbelievers) in hiking
and sports experiences.
My education is in economics and non-profit development.
After college, I worked in sales and management for
financial and technology companies. My last job was
with a consulting company, managing Virtual training
over the internet for U.S. customers and handling
marketing and web design. But through prayer, I felt
called to work in a Christian organization in my city
that focused on Youth , Children and Families. Two
weeks later, in 2001, I saw an advertisement for the
New Hope position. I believe it was not coincidence
- I believe it was a calling from God.
Petr now serves as an Executive Director for New Hope and as is responsible for program planning, budget, ministry and employees. He personally embarks upon projects such as puppet-show ministry and preventive and abstinence lectures at the high schools.
